Types of Weight Loss, Intentional and Unintentional

In the medical and health context, weight loss refers to loss of total body mass because of loss of fat, adipose tissues and fluids. Burning an excess amount of calories result towards losing weight. Occurrence of weight loss can be classified into two types namely, intentional and unintentional weight loss.

Unintentional weight loss is caused due to medical ailments. There are a few complicated and dreadful diseases accompanied by weight loss such as AIDS, Cancer, Tuberculosis, Type 1 diabetes and Cardiac problems.

Intentional weight loss occurs due to consciousness and effects of people who wish to overcome obesity and shed excess weight. People intentionally lose weight to improve their health and physical fitness.
