What are the Types of Diabetes?

Alcohol and Heart HealthDiabetes is a disease where the glucose in the blood is far above the necessary level. There are three main type of diabetes that people suffer from. The types are Gestational diabetes, Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes.

The type of diabetes that is most commonly diagnosed is type 2 diabetes. This type is diagnosed in ninety percent of diabetes patients. This type of diabetes can start at any age and is caused when insulin cannot properly function, leaving glucose out of the blood.

Type 1 diabetes is a condition that last through one’s life and is usually found as a child or young adult. It occurs when the body doesn’t make insulin, so it has to be added to ones diet through shots or insulin pumps. Gestational diabetes happens during the pregnancy period and only happens to 5 percent of pregnant women. It is caused when the hormones emitted prohibit insulin from performing its normal functions.
